When I grow up... Copyright: 122 ACU

122 Army Cadet Unit has a long and proud involvement with the city of Mackay and has been preparing the youth of our region forthe challenges of adult life since 1945.

122 ACU is part of the Australian Defence Force Cadets (ADFC), a nation-wide youth movement sponsored by the Australian Defence Force. The Australian Defence Force Cadets is made up of three separate groups that correspond to their parent service:

Australian Army Cadets

Australian Navy Cadets, and

Australian Air Force Cadets

About Us

Currently 122 ACU has a strength of 65 Cadets and 5 adult staff members. The unit is commanded by an adult staff member (Officer Commanding) who is responsible for all aspects of operation and administration of the unit. To assist the Officer Commanding, adult staff are placed in supervisory roles and are tasked with monitoring and at times training cadet staff members.

The day to day operation of 122 ACU is the responsibility of the Cadet Company Commander who is a senior Cadet Under Officer who manages the unit and who supervises between 3 - 5 platoon commanders who are responsible for training and leading platoons of up to 30 cadets. 122 ACU currently has 3 platoons each being commanded by a junior Cadet Under Officer, a Sergeant and 4 - 6 Junior NCO's. Currently, 122 ACU has a total strength of 72 cadets & staff.

What We Do

In 122 ACU most activites are orientated toward military training and skills. Cadets take part in a range of military and non-military training designed to encourage teamwork, loyalty, initiative, leadership and self-discipline. Cadets are not soldiers and are not members of the Defence Force.

What We Stand For

We are committed to providing an environment where cadets have the opportunity to learn, socialise and grow in a safe, secure and structured environment. Discipline is firm but fair and all cadets know and are expected to abide by the Australian Army Cadet code of behaviour.  The AAC has a zero tolerance policy toward drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and any forms of abuse including harrassment & discrimmination.

 Parade Times

122 ACU normally parades on Monday evenings between the hours of 5.20pm and 8.30pm during school terms.  The unit also parades on student free days unless other arrangements have been made. The unit does not parade during school holidays unless activities such as camps, courses and ceremonial parades have been planned.
